ROLEX

Rolex is one of the most well-known designer watch brands in the world. The company was founded in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis in London before relocating to Geneva, Switzerland, and is revered for its high-quality, handmade timepieces.

Rolex watches are made with precision and care — it takes roughly one year for a Rolex watch to be crafted — and are designed to last a lifetime. Premium materials used such as 904L stainless steel, which is resistant to rust, corrosion and pitting, and gold produced in-house ensure the brand’s acute control over quality.

Believed to be named by Wilsdorf because he wanted a short word that looked good on a watch face and could be pronounced in any language, Rolex’s most popular models include the Daytona, Submariner, Datejust and Day Date.

Rolex Daytona

The Rolex Daytona is a world-renowned chronograph wristwatch that has been associated with prestige and luxury since its debut in 1963. The Rolex Daytona was designed to meet the demands of professional racing drivers, and it quickly became a favorite among motor sports enthusiasts.

The Rolex Daytona features a chronograph movement that is accurate to within 1/8 of a second, making it an essential tool for timing races. Waterproof and resistant to the high speeds reached by race cars on the Daytona track, the watch is also equipped with a tachymeter scale, which allows drivers to calculate their average speed over a given distance, and a Rolex calibre 4130 self-winding mechanical movement.

In addition to its functional design, the Rolex Daytona is also known for its exquisite craftsmanship and elegant style. The Rolex Daytona remains one of the most coveted watches in the world, is still manufactured exclusively for the Daytona International Speedway and is worn by many of the world’s top racing drivers. The watch is available in a variety of metals, including stainless steel, white gold and yellow gold.

Rolex Submariner

The Rolex Submariner is a classic dive watch that has been beloved by enthusiasts for generations. First introduced in 1953 at a time when diving was becoming increasingly popular, the Submariner was designed to be the perfect tool for underwater exploration. Rolex was one of the first companies to realize the potential of this new market, and they set out to create a watch that could withstand the rigors of diving.

Water-resistant to depths of up to 200 meters, the Submariner features a rotating bezel that can be used to track dive times and a luminous dial for reading in low-light conditions. The watch is powered by a self-winding mechanical movement, and it has a date display at the 3 o’clock position. With its timeless design, the Rolex Submariner is widely considered to be one of the most iconic watches ever made, and is a popular choice among both divers and watch collectors.

Rolex Datejust

The Rolex Datejust is a classic wristwatch that was first introduced in 1945. It was designed to be a more elegant and sophisticated alternative to the Rolex Oyster, and it quickly became one of the most sought-after watches in the world. The Rolex Datejust is notable for its durability and water resistance, making it an ideal choice for those who lead an active lifestyle. The Datejust was also the first wristwatch to feature an automatically changing date display.

The Rolex Datejust is distinguished by its date display window at the 3 o’clock position, and it is available in a variety of metals, including stainless steel, gold and platinum. Over the years, the Rolex Datejust has undergone several updates and refinements but it remains one of the most coveted watches in the world.

Rolex Day-Date

The Rolex Day-Date is a luxurious and sophisticated watch that has been prized by collectors for decades. Launched in 1956, the Day-Date was the first watch to feature both the day of the week spelled out in full and the date on the dial, located at the 3 o’clock position. This innovative design quickly made the Day-Date one of Rolex’s most popular models.

The Day-Date is also notable for its use of precious metals, with many early models being made from gold or platinum. It’s available in a range of dial colors, including black, white and green. The Rolex Day-Date remains an iconic model, and its distinctive design has remained largely unchanged over the years.

HAMILTON

Hamilton watches was founded in 1892 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and quickly gained a reputation for quality and durability. In the early 20th century, Hamilton became the largest producer of railroad watches in the United States, earning “The Railroad Timekeeper of America” title.

Hamilton watches have been present during several historic events. The brand was the official timepiece of the First Byrd Antarctic Expedition to the South Pole. In 1957, the company released the Hamilton Ventura, which was worn by Elvis Presley in the film “Blue Hawaii.” Hamilton watches were later used by the US military during World War II and they were also
chosen as the official timekeepers for the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969. Hamilton continued to produce innovative timepieces throughout the 20th century, including the world’s first electronic watch in 1970.

Hamilton is currently a subsidiary of the Swiss conglomerate Swatch Group, and its watches are sold all over the world. Hamilton’s current lineup includes both men’s and ladies’ watches, with a variety of styles to suit any taste. The Hamilton Khaki Field collection, for example, is inspired by the brand’s military heritage, while the Hamilton Jazzmaster line features elegant and sophisticated timepieces.

Ladies’ wristwatches

Hamilton’s first ladies’ watch was a small pendant watch, featuring a simple, sleek design that was perfect for everyday wear. Hamilton ladies’ wrist watches — designed to be a smaller, more delicate version of the pocket watch — have been around since the early 1900s.

By the 1920s, Hamilton was one of the largest watchmakers in the world. Around that time, Hamilton released the Hamilton Tonneau, a wristwatch with a rectangular case. This watch was very popular with the flappers of the time and it helped to solidify Hamilton’s place as a premier manufacturer of ladies watches. It quickly became popular with women who wanted a timepiece that was both stylish and functional.

The Hamilton ladies wrist watch is typically made from gold or silver, and it often features intricate details such as engravings or gemstones.

Masterpiece 922MP Platinum Pocket Watch

The Hamilton Masterpiece 922MP platinum pocket watch is a prime example of the level of craftsmanship Hamilton is capable of. This particular watch was available with either 18 karat gold or the more rare, expensive (by nearly three times, originally) platinum casings. The case and movement are both signed by Hamilton. The 922MP watch is considered to be one of the finest Hamilton watches ever created.

Dating and the designations of 922MPs can be tricky. Records indicate there were 2600 Masterpiece 922MPs produced from 1926-1936 with serial numbers spanning 3002301-3013700. Prior to 1928, Hamilton cased some 922s in the special cases typically associated with the Masterpiece collection, without the Masterpiece stamp on the center bridge. These are still listed as 922MPs in the Hamilton serial number records.

Some late model 922MPs used “Invar” in the balances. Records show about 15,700 were made as 922s, and roughly 1,400 prior to 1928 were unmarked 922MPs. From 1928-1936, there were 1,200 922MPs made that were marked MASTERPIECE, a more desirable version among collectors. The 922MP is truly a work of art and a masterpiece of Hamilton’s watchmaking prowess.

Cartier’s most iconic product is perhaps its “Santos” watch, which was designed by Louis Cartier in 1904 for his friend Alberto Santos-Dumont, an aviation pioneer. The Santos was the first wristwatch ever designed, and it quickly became a must-have accessory for the rich and famous.
